As May creeps into June we find ourselves in bathing suit season – I know, a dreaded thought for many of us. If you watched my last segment, I talked about the most flattering swimsuits and cover-ups for the Pear Shape, or someone who has curves on their lower half. Today, I’m going to share the best styles for the Banana Shape, also known as the straight-up-and-down shape, the ruler, or the women who don’t have curves.
The Banana Shaped women has a smaller bust which opens up and ton of options in the bathing suit world. You can wear pretty much any style, regardless of how supportive it is. This is because you don’t need to worry about balancing proportions.
But, if you are looking to create some curves with your swimwear, I have a few tips for you:
- Consider adding dimensional details like cut-outs, shirring, bold prints and horizontal stripes to create the illusion of a more hourglass shape.
- Busy patterns and added fabric such as ruffles add volume to your bust and hips
- To emphasize your bust, go with the “lift and separate” concept by finding swimsuits that have a padding or boning to add contouring.
- A two-piece suit creates the illusion that you are more curvaceous, especially a two-piece with high-waisted bottoms. If you are a little self-conscious about exposing your mid-section, a tankini that fits through your stomach area will create a similar illusion of curves.
So, now that you know your Banana shape can pull off virtually any style of swimwear, you need a great cover-up to complement. Similar to bathing suits, flattering cover-ups are numerous for you.
If you do want to create curves, look for a cover-up that ties around the waist or go with a romper. Both of these options give the illusion of having curves as they create distinct sections in all of the right places – at the widest party of your hips and across the bust line. And then, play up some ultra-feminine fabrics like lace or eyelet.
