Another summer filled with wild adventures and sweet memories is now in the books. School began today and in this phase of life I feel like the commencement of the school year is more of a jumpstart to new beginnings than January 1st.
A new school year kicks off new friendships, new hopes, new trials, new tribulations, new dreams and new aspirations. I’m not just talking about the children who attend school, I’m also talking about the mommas and poppas who are able to balance the summer fun with the demand of work. I read this blog post a couple of months ago (https://www.mother.ly/life/we-only-have-18-summers-together-my-baby) and then I did the math. My son is 11, on the brink on turning 12. Math isn’t my strong suit but suddenly the knot in my throat got bigger. I had eight summers. I now have seven left. Gulp! Time, please slow down.
So, while the late nights and double-sleepovers and last minute gatherings and afternoon rainstorms and sun-kissed cheeks and boxes of popsicles and morning walks may all be a few pages behind us, I look forward to what the next chapters will bring. It’s exciting, I just know it.
In the midst of play, I actually was able to get some work in as well. Not surprisingly, the beach was a popular backdrop for several of these shoots. You know that saying, “If you are lucky enough to live at the beach, you are lucky enough?” Well, when in Charleston…
The images below are actually a bit of a throwback but the white sand, blue seas and summer stripes are consistent in many of my sunny shoots. None of these images would’ve been possible without the help of Kate Benson, Maribeth Nolte, Directions USA, Tres Carmen Boutique, Peyton William and Gold Bug. For all of you, I am grateful.
xo,
Alexandra
