Sweatshirts Made Chic

September 29, 2016

What if it was OK to wear sweatshirts more often then just pre & post gym, maybe even appropriate to wear to work? I have a feeling that this would appeal to more then just one type of fashionista. Like major trends such as corsetry and athlesiure, designers are challenging what is “appropriate” for your day-to-day. Risk takers and early trend adopters will incorporate these looks into their wardrobes first, and everyone else will jump on once the shock factor has settled. Lets face it, people use clothes to stand out in a crowd, but only a few pave the actual path to what will later be mainstream. Sweatshirts were made chic in this month’s Runway shows. From cooler, more “downtown” brands like Proenza Shouler, to typically dressier brands like Ryan Roche, designers across the board incorporated sweatshirts into their shows. For the more conservative in taste, pair a simple white sweatshirt with tailored trousers for a sleek, sophisticated look. Make this look go from desk-to-dusk with white sneakers for the daytime and strappy heels at night. Gucci showcased a printed sweatshirt layered over a tiered ruffle dress. This juxtaposition between street dressing and a romantic aesthetic feels exciting and fresh. Layer a sweatshirt into your look in more ways then one during this fall season. One thing is guaranteed, you will be inevitably more cozy then the next girl.

Styling

Don’t fear your closet, embrace it! Let’s face it, for many of us fashion feels like a never-ending tide of chic looks, must-have handbags, jaw-dropping shoes and bold accessories. Keeping up with trends is expensive, knowing how to work with the clothes you already own seems tricky, and dressing to cover your perceived flaws feels like an exercise in futility. Not any longer. Fashion and styling isn’t about expensive designers or the . . .
