Novelty Shirting

October 18, 2016

Novelty Shirting is the evolution of everyone’s favorite white button-down shirt. It does not replace the necessity of a perfectly tailored, crisp, white blouse, but rather adds a totally different element to your wardrobe. Deconstructed shirting was all over the Spring/Summer 2017 runways. Think of your favorite fresh, clean collared shirt abstracted in artful ways, creating interesting folds and 3- dimensional angles. Deconstructed Shirts are like mini sculptures – the tactile design skills required are impressive in themselves. Whether bell sleeved, cinched at the elbows, or pressed and layered across the front, these styles take the word “blouse” to the next level. When adorned on a hanger, deconstructed shirts can look confusing. They beg to be tried on so that the wearer can see how intentional every crease is intended. Wear an off-the-shoulder, deconstructed shirt a la Rosetta Getty with skinny jeans and stilettos for a fashion-forward night out. Try an over-sized version with bootleg pants or slim trousers for a work-appropriate yet elevated outfit. Novelty Shirting looks expensive and unique. Pretty soon chilly weather will call for coats and this style trend shouldn’t be hidden behind layers.  Now is the time to adopt this trend into your wardrobe.

Keeping up with trends is expensive, knowing how to work with the clothes you already own seems tricky, and dressing to cover your perceived flaws feels like an exercise in futility. Not any longer. Fashion and styling isn’t about expensive designers or the . . .
