It’s What to Wear Wednesday and Hats are on the Horizon

August 30, 2018

It’s here!! #whattowearwednesdays is now live on my Alexandra Styles Facebook page. Each Wednesday, I’ll be talking about a different fashion topic including style tips just for you. Todays topic: Hats.  You will see them on the floors of every boutique and department store across the nation this fall.

      the Fedora & the Balaclava

The four most popular hat styles for fall 2018 are the Fedora, the Beret, the Beanie and the Balaclava.

The Fedora or a floppy hat is perfect for women who have an oval or long face.  The width of the brim helps to balance the length of the face.

The Beret is perfect for women with a square-shape face.  The roundness of the design helps to soften the jaw line.

The Beanie is great for women who have a heart-shape face as that hat slims the forehead.

And, the Balaclava (a hat that covers everything except for the eyes, nose, and sometimes mouth) is the biggest trend on the runway this season.  It appeals to all face shapes.  It’s really just a matter of whether or not you feel like pulling off this hot, new trend!

The next step in finding the best hat for you is making sure you are buying the proper hat size.  Grab a piece of measuring tape, wrap it around your head (starting from the back).  Bring the tape just above your ears and finish the measurement about 1″ above your eyebrows.  That number is your head size.

Styling

Don’t fear your closet, embrace it! Let’s face it, for many of us fashion feels like a never-ending tide of chic looks, must-have handbags, jaw-dropping shoes and bold accessories. Keeping up with trends is expensive, knowing how to work with the clothes you already own seems tricky, and dressing to cover your perceived flaws feels like an exercise in futility. Not any longer. Fashion and styling isn’t about expensive designers or the . . .
