Today’s What to Wear Wednesday blog post is about mixing prints and patterns. I’m often asked how I do this successfully without looking like I just got dressed in the dark. The truth is, there are several ways to mix prints and patterns to complete an outfit. But today, I want to keep it simple and stick to two basic rules.
The first of these rules that I have for mixing prints successfully is to make sure that the prints share one color; this will keep the items connected. The second rule I have is that the patterns need to be two different sizes. For example, this skirt and top can work together because they share the color blue and the prints are two different sizes. If you feel like this type of look is outside of your comfort zone, break up the patterns with a solid such as a belt or jacket.
Mixing prints and patterns together aren’t just for women. They apply to men, too. Take a shirt and tie, for example. As long as the two items share one color and have different size prints, they coordinate.
As I mentioned earlier, there are several other ways to mix prints and patterns. If you’d like to know more, please leave me a message below or contact me directly. Thank you for reading! Click here for a link of the live post: Alexandra Styles. See you next Wednesday.
